Steve Reid Foundation

Gilles Peterson has set up The Steve Reid Foundation!!! This is a wonderful thing... please give your support. Here's the press release he's issued about it:
STEVE REID FOUNDATION:The Steve Reid Foundation has been set up by DJ Gilles Peterson in memory of the drummer Steve Reid, who died in 2010. The aims of the foundation are to fundraise on behalf of struggling musicians in need of help and support.Steve Reid was an amazing drummer with a long and illustrious history that stretched from working with James Brown, Miles Davis and Fela Kuti through to his own Steve Reid Trio and more recently working with Kieran Hebden (Four Tet). He died from throat cancer in the US in April 2010 without the money for treatment that could have saved his life.As Gilles says: “this is something that is very close to me and that I feel strongly about, and wanted to set up something as a lasting legacy to help others in similar situations. To this end, I am running the London Marathon on April 17th on behalf of the Steve Reid Foundation.”The Steve Reid Foundation is applying for charitable status and in the meantime will work closely with the Musicians Benevolent Fund to aid the plight of struggling musicians, especially those with long-term and life threatening health problems. A career as a musician may sometimes seem glamorous but more often it is a struggle and health related issues can often be the final straw. A variety of other fundraising activities are planned, but in the meantime all the monies raised by Gilles running in the marathon will go directly to the Musicians Benevolent Fund.http://www.justgiving.com/GillesPetersonFor further information, contact <info@brownswoodrecordings.com>

2010 has generally been a fantastic year, but looking back it’s the sad loss of my great friend and musical collaborator Steve Reid back in April that is one of the main things that comes into my mind. As a tribute and also so that he can be remembered I wanted to get some more of his story out there by arranging with the people at Domino Records to have this unreleased film from 2006 about the making of our album Tongues released online. The film shows footage from the studio sessions for the album but also includes live footage from the touring we did that year as well as interviews with people we worked with such as Gilles Peterson and Nigel Godrich. As you’ll see in the film Steve was an amazing human… an incredible spirit and a powerful and soulful musician.

I'm starting my residency at Plastic People in London again this weekend on Saturday 11th September. I'll be there for the rest of the year on the second Saturday of the month. Just me all night playing 5 to 6 hour sets. The club was suffering from some trouble with councils and licenses and stuff earlier this year but everything is up and running again. It's pretty much my favourite club to play at in the world and my residency there last year was where I tried out all the material from my recent album before it was released.
I've done this new DJ mix to celebrate. It's here through my Soundcloud page and you can download it from FACT magazine:

There are now new Four Tet t-shirts available! They can be ordered from this website:
www.thisunfolds.com
I've been getting asked for ages where you can buy Four Tet t-shirts online so we've finally got a website set up for this. It's very rare that I have t-shirts with me for sale at shows so this is the best place to get hold of them.

I'm going to be doing a show in an Oxfam shop in London on the 30th September as part of the Oxjam series of events. I can't believe I've been asked to play in an Oxfam shop and a gig that small should be mad fun. There are limited tickets available for this at £25 each which is a lot more than it usually costs to see me play but all the money made at these events is going to Oxfam, so it's all good really. Here are links with more information about tickets etc:
